Native Translators Needed (NL) – Freelance, Remote

Liveaboard.com is looking for freelance translators to translate from English, maintaining the original text meaning, format, and tone, to the following languages:

• Dutch

Assignments include but aren’t limited to product descriptions, blog posts, articles, and marketing materials (brochures, vouchers, videos, etc.). Ultimately, you will provide ready-to-use translated content that meets our internal needs and helps us reach a broader audience. The ideal candidate must be a native speaker, preferably living in a country where the target language is spoken.

The content is not technical, but some knowledge of scuba diving, basic boating/sailing terminology, and marine species names is needed.

This role is exclusively freelance and remote - fees will be calculated based on the number of words in the original language text. Typically, between 1,000 and 5,000 words per month. When applying, please provide your per-word rate.

Responsibilities

• Provide quotations for translation services offered
• To read through the original material and translate it into the target language while ensuring translated content conveys original meaning and tone
• Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy
• Edit the content to maintain its original format (i.e., font and structure)
• Use specialist dictionaries, thesauruses, and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used (e.g., basic boating/sailing terminology, marine species names)
• Follow up with team members and clients to ensure translation meets company requirements

Requirements and skills

• Must be a native speaker of the target language, preferably living in-country
• Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter, or similar role
• Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors
• Good knowledge of content editing tools (MS Word, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.)
• Liaising with the client to discuss any unclear points
• Time-management skills
• Familiarity with translation software a plus (Trados)
• Being a scuba diver is a plus
